Nerd Alert: Joeprah Revealed | Print |  E-mail
Written by Joeprah

A lot of people ask me, who is Joeprah?  Who is the guy behind the website?  Who is the person responsible for the hole in the ozone?  Wait, just the first two.  I don't think I did the ozone thing anyways.  I really was inspired to come out of the nerd closet by reading my friend Wendy's recent post.  Apparently, and I don't know how I missed the memo, this is like nerd week or something for bloggers.  Anyways, I thought it would be a great idea to share a little bit about what makes Joeprah a nerd.

First, I started and ran a chess club.  Period.  I don't think any game is more associated with being a total nerd than chess, and I ran the club.  I was president of the nerd club.  As a matter of fact, I ran and organized chess camps for kids for two summers.  I was like the nerd Dhali Lama.  Anyways, I would love to get back into chess, however it does take time.  I am looking forward to starting a chess club at my daughters' elementary school in a few years and thus resolidify myself as a nerd once again.

Second, I know almost all the words to the movie Aliens.  The only reason I say almost is because I am out of practice.  I have watched that movie countless times and as a boy I basically worshipped it as the height of cinematic engineering.  I also have an Anime thing.  Akira, yep.  Vampire Hunter D, yep.  Alucard, yep.  Spirited Away, uh huh.  Dragon Ball Z...sigh, for a while, yes.  Robotech was my original anime fascination.  I loved, loved, loved that show when I was like 7-9.  It was really the first true anime experience for the youth of the US.  I mean, you can't count Voltron or Speed Racer as anime, right.  Anyways, Anime has long been a source of nerd pride and I will stand toe to toe with my nerd brethren to defend the name of Anime.  What am I talking about?

Third, Table Tennis.  I don't play ping pong.  Ping pong is what two people play that have no clue about "cutting," "english," top," and "tackiness."  I have a paddle that cost $100 US dollars.  $100 US dollars.  I repeated that for emphasis.  I actually aspire to have a $150 or $200 paddle.  I don't think I would ever get the shoes or shorts, but the paddles are awesome.  Carbon fiber bats, anti rubber, sponges, 5 star table tennis balls.  OMG.  Awesome.  I am not that good actually.  I would destroy Joe average off the street by like a million to nothing, but actual real players...man, they are my heros.

80% Water 100% Awesome

Fourth, books.  When it comes to learning a new recreation (i.e. chess or poker or anything) I do the research, I do the math, I read a lot.  I want to have the edge.  I don't play to come in second.  I am a poor loser, but an awesome winner.  I love winning, and I try to win as much as I can.  LOL!

Fifth, (holy moly there's five?) and last, my infatuation with online, multiplayer, first-person-shooter games--namely Medal of Honor Allied Assault.  I have played that game since it first came out over 6 years ago.  It is totally awesome.  I love WW II history and the format of the game totally appeals to that part of my sensitivity.  I have ear phones.  I am in a "Clan."  I literally have friends all over the world from playing that game.  Between blogging and playing MOHAA (thats what you call Medal of Honor Allied Assault for short) I think I have friends on every continent...besides Antarctica.  I know lingo and terminology from playing MOHAA that is completely useless outside of that game, and I think when I am on my deathbed speaking jibberish I will probably shout out something like "Inside lower 2, lower 2!"  Omg, I am nerd.  I am comfortable being a nerd.  I wonder how many of you out there are nerds?  What makes you a nerd?   I will leave you with a nerdastic movie of me plalying Medal of Honor for you viewing pleasure.  Enjoy!

We watch Star Trek almost every Sunday night. We make fun of it. Especially when they go to press important buttons or switches. Or when the doors open and make the hiss sound. So fake. William Shatner was ripped!

Okay, Joeprah Gump, you were wrong about one thing... Dungeons and Dragons is the game most associated with nerdiness, but chess runs a close second. Your wife must really love you if you spent $100 on a ping pong paddle and lived to tell about it! Oh, and if you ever do get the shorts....... please don't post a picture. :x

What you don't know about me is that I love to play chess... and dude, I suck. But, I love it. I'm a confident loser, I have no quams with losing... I consider it an honor to congratulate every badass who is an actual winner. I like to surround myself with winners! The best way to do that? Be a loser smilies/wink.gif

You are HOT Joeps! I dig nerds.

LOL you would definately win the Bloggers Choice Nerdiest Blogger award. My hubby paid a stupid amount for an *official* shuttlecock for badminton, so when he beats me (often) I can't blame it on the equipment smilies/wink.gif

Joeprah: sadly,
:roll I do not follow the trekkie, star wars mold, I actually dislike each of those series. I am, perhaps, to nerdy for them. I am an uber critic which makes it impossible to like either.

:x Uhm you fit the nerd mold well, as my TT this week was about pop culture obsessions and how nerdy you are for them. You did not mention being a Trekker or Trekkie, a Dr. Who fan or Star Wars fanboy though....which is it?????

Groovy Mom: I'm a nerd
Oh geez. I'm wearing my nerd headset right this very moment. I had to put it on to watch your video because I left it plugged in last night while I was playing Guild Wars.

I think lots of bloggers are nerds. I think nerds are just naturally drawn to blogging. So the nerd percentages will be inflated in the blog world. I've raised a family of nerds too, well with my nerdly husband's help.

So many things nerdify me. Primarily it would be my fascination with Monty Python, video games (I suck out loud, but enjoy them), and I'd take you on in table tennis (and I'll take the sucky paddles too, but not the sandpaper one, hate those). Heck, I'd be better off having the wife answer for me, she is always calling me a geek/nerd for something or other.

peteej: Damn this mandatory title rule
If you had friends on Antarctica, then you would be uber-geek.

I tried playing games online but for me it's like crack. If I start, I can go like three days without a break. Since I have a family, that doesn't work out too good. I have no gaming self-control.
