Kids like to draw on walls. Toddlers, especially, have a penchant for this type of graffiti; it is a fact. As for me, I have a toddler daughter who likes to scribble remedial drawings throughout our house. Perhaps more than anywhere else, she enjoys defacing her room. I read a post at Sarcastic Mom some time ago where she was talked about being a crayon Nazi . Although I feel her pain, I would have to say my pain is more permanent in nature. I can only wonder if she will have to deal with some of the same issues I have over the tenure of the last two years with our third child. She is absolutely a whirlwind. She gathers up magic markers like a prisoner pilfering contraband. When she was still in the diaper,I caught her trafficikng a Crayola purple magic marker on her way to "nap-time." The worst part about the entire, "I am going to draw all over everything including myself," mentality is that she is so cute. Like the Italian mafia, you never knew you were marked for a hit, since they killed you with a smile. My daughter, who is part Italian, exhibits some of this brilliance, as she often distracts me with giggles and smiles that are warm enough to melt the polar ice caps. I am not calling my daughter evil or a hitman, but in a way, she targets me with her cuteness like a goon targets an informer with his tommygun. These distractions have lead to many incidents, like the time when she colored her body...almost completely, and the infamous magic-marker-red-chair-extravaganza.
Have your kids done anything ridiculous with markers, crayons, pen...paint...anything? Do tell.

Aww, she is precious (precocious?) and talented for her age. She holds a crayon much more effectiuvely than my 4 1/2 year old...
I have some pictures that I will have to post in response on my blog. Check back in a few days. I pretty much nipped that in the bud the few (and far between) times Jaxon has drawn anywhere he is not supposed to. He learned early that we only draw on paper, and only paper that is his and not a book! That said, there have still been a few times.... 1

Speechless.
I once found my daughter (age 2) covered head to toe with "something" brown. Fortunately, it turned out to be my mascara that she had gotten into upstairs while "napping." I hope you have stock in Sherwin Williams... 3

Wanton destruction never looked so cute. My kid likes to "customize" all his vehicles. Which basically means coloring them all with markers and crayons. "Hey look Dad, it's sponsored!" That's what you get by explaining sponsorship to your kid after you watch "Cars"

my wife and I took our three little girls to visit another couple who had two little girls ... an hour into the visit things seemed pretty quiet ... we snuck up on them as they were finger painting their siamese cat. Very colorful expessionism ... very pissed off cat.

Very cute indeed. I have to tell you though, it pisses me off too. The other day my wife and I were extremely happy to find that our daughter had drawn all over the lampshades in the living room. C'mon man...lampshades? Its not even a flat, stable surface.

We have many walls and bodies colored by Sharpies really IN reach. I also have 2 Apple keyboards that have been re-decorated. One line of defense we used was in the play room used wayne's goating(sp?). Easy clean up!

I was about to hit play when I realized my 3-year-old daughter, who to date has never colored on any walls, was standing behind me. I wasn't about to teach her any new tricks so I'll watch it when they go to bed.
However, if anyone gives us any markers that aren't washable they go straight into the garbage. Washable markers are a godsend! 10

I used to lose sleep over similar style drawings. until on the 8th day God invented the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. These things are magic and don't take the paint off. And you can also call 1-800-CRAYOLA and they will tell you how to get all kinds of their products(and not their products) off all kinds os surfaces. Hope this was helpful.

Two words, Washable Crayons. We got them for Mr. B and it has made cleanup so much easier.
In other news. Mr. B stopped dead in his tracks, put down his trains, and watched the cave girl. 13

Way cute! Man, she'd totally have me saying "uncle" in no time. What is it about little daughters that can do that to their dads, anyway? So... I'm thinking you should cover every surface in her room with butcher paper. When it gets full, tear it off and put up another layer. Voila.

We got this really cool paint once that created a chalkboard-type surface. You could draw on it with colored chalk then just wipe it down with a damp cloth... voila!

My girls both had a desire to write on the walls, so we tried something that, to date, no other parent I know has done.
We painted the dining room wall with blue, yellow and green tempera paint, using our handprints as brushes. The kids loved it and it didn't look all that bad. Once the novelty wore off, I painted over it with a roller and some good paint. No big deal. To this day, if you look close enough, you can see the outlines of small hands. 16

pfft. rank amateur.
my claim to cave art fame was after reading crockett's harold and the magic crayon ... we'd just moved to a new apartment and my mother thought it was a swell idea to tell me to not leave my new room. except she forgot to leave me anything to do. a resourceful 4 year old, i promptly picked up the metal window lock thingy that you put in the track of the window so it can only be opened so far. and i CARVED my beautiful hills across all four walls of the brand new apartment ... upside was that mom never again left me completely alone with nothing to do for more than 30 seconds or so .... ![]() 18
