This past weekend, like I mentioned in my earlier post, was hectic with a slumber party among other planned activities we had, but I wanted to give folks a look at the slumber/birthday party festivities first hand.  In this video I also feature another tool in my hair styling arsenal--the braid.  Take a look and see how this dad braids hair and also take special note of my wife's jump roping skills in the middle portion of the video, you'll thank me for it.

Aww, what a talented Dad you are! Hint: I'd start learning the French braid sooner than later, you will need it.

The video is darling. People always try to get me to tell them how to french braid and I have no idea how to 'tell' them. My fingers just know what to do :-) I couldn't figure out for the life of me what 'jump rumping' was and then when I saw the video I was rolling. Y'all are precious!

That was absolutely great. My favorite part, aside from learning how to braid hair, must have been the look on your girls face as you were brushing her hair. :zzz

I'm sure your wife is thanking you for posting the jump roping also. That was funny!

And your daughter--how to do get her to just make the faces and not scream out with each brush stroke. I swear I spend 80% of our hair time saying, "Princesses do not cry when they have their hair done!"

lol oh Joe! At one point you had my eyes tearing up, I so remember mom when she used to french braid my hair and had to brush and pull hard. OW. Or, any trip to her hair salon (they get kinda rough). You did a great job though! And, I agree, you should definitely learn french braiding now...fun stuff!

And, for the love of God, please be more gentle with that hair brush, I can feel it over here. lol

Your family is soooooo stinkin' cute!

Dude! I'm impressed! You need to come give Mr. Smoochiefrog lessons. He hasn't a clue. If he does K's hair, poor thing ends up looking like Alfalfa!

So fun, and I've gotta give you props and extra credit points for using the song "Everybody Needs a Bosom For a Pillow" for this slumber party video. LOVE that song...in fact, it's on one of my group cycling playlists!

ROFL!!! I love the fast forward sounds of the girls voices! The squealing is exactly how I remember my slumber parties growing up ;) Great job on the hair! I agree with Huckdoll, the french braid will surely be in demand soon!

The #1 sign of a truly awesome parent is their ability to throw and fun birthday party at their home. Anybody can do a chuckEcheese kind of thing. The party looked like tonse of fun.

btw... thanks for forcing yourself into a Chick Fil A to try to find the CD for me.

Poor girl looks like she's in pain. I must say that you're a brave man. As a father to only one son, I've never had to braid hair or anything like that. Looks hard.

After I finally stopped laughing over your daughter's slumber party I recalled my own daughter's first. It's was her eighth birthday (she is now 25) and every girl in her class was invited... 12 total. The entertainment was basically the same, though the relay race was sadly lacking. The thing I remember most is that these little tiny girls nearly ate me out of house and home! I had a half dozen pizzas, umpteen bags of chips, etc., cake, ice cream, candy... it was like locusts had invaded home! I mean if it was not nailed or on fire they wanted to consume it. Finally at about midnight when they asked for yet more snacks, I opened the fridge for them to see and said, "there's nothing here, but beer and pickles!!!". One little girl piped up, "can we have the pickles?" And yes, they ate those too.

Thank you for sharing your awesome torture, uh, I mean braiding
skills. The end result looked very nice and your poor daughter was a real trooper, with all the wincing. My own daughters used to yell "Ouch!" a lot.

What's wrong with your wife's jump roping skills? I thought she did a great job! Well, Ok, maybe it was a little slow, but very feminine.

And thank you for sharing the video of the slumber party - and the speeded-up vocals. One of the advantages of getting old is remembering slumber parties in the past and not having to do them anymore! YIPPEE!

Dude, that wasn't jump roping...that was skip roping or gallop roping, but definitely not jump roping.

I am afraid if the WonderWife let me do our daughters hair, she would have 16 tails coming out her head.

Props to your awesome wife & her mad ropin' skills! Woo! To your dramatic instant replay too. Nice touch. Now the hair...just how do you get your kids to stand there for the thorough brushing & brushing & brushing sessions? Is it all the "'cause I said so" stuff or are they willing participants? You're like my husband when he does certain things like folding towels. It takes a long time & it's precise, doggone it!
Anyway, I've given in. I've come to the end of myself and joined your blog. I didn't want to (I think it's because you're a man 'n all - no offense), but I couldn't hold out any more. I figure resistance is futile at this point.

K...
I don't know what happened with that.
I don't know what happened with that.
I'm blaming that on my kids & man who were about to come home. I was frantically trying to get my blogging done(aka that comment) & run around stuffing dishes in the dishwasher & laundry in the thing like a mad woman so as to look like I actually did something today. My brain/hand coordination was fritzing. I was hoping no one would notice. shoot.
