Wonder Pets, Not That Annoying | Print |  E-mail
Written by Joeprah

What's Gonna Work?

So, by now most of you stay at homers have seen or heard, as you planted your child in front of the TV, the Nick Jr. show called The Wonder Pets.  At first glance one would think that this show would make you want to invent a harder way for changing channels, but I'd have to say, after seeing how my toddler gets a kick out of this show, that it definitely has staying power.  Lets examine the key elements of a good "kid show" from a stay at home dad's perspective:

  1. It is engaging enough to have your child excited to watch it thus freeing you up momentarily
  2. It has an original format based on creativity instead of using some canned kids show formula based on statistics (ie Handy Mandy = Bob the Builder + Dora the Explorer)
  3. It has music that is soothing enough to nap to for both parents and children ( critical, most important feature )
  4. Subconsciously teaches while making children happy
  5. It has original characters
  6. Catchy music that won't (key) drive you crazy when you sing it
  7. (Most Importantly) A duck

Happily, all these categories are able to be checked off with the show Wonder Pets.  There are two songs that are used in the show and both are quite hypnotic allowing a tired child to be pushed over the edge into a full blown nap.  I have found myself humming or singing both songs throughout the day and refreshingly I have not wanted to set myself on fire for doing so.  Below I have displayed where The Wonder Pets fall on the Joeprah-Kid-Show-O-Meter scale of annoyingness.

Doodlebops are the worst

If you have not fallen asleep to The Wonder Pets then I highly recommend it, you won't be dissapointed.

Okay, I cannot believe I haven't seen this poster sooner. I, too, enjoy the WonderPets for the same reasons. In fact my older two will sing the song to each other when one of them needs help from the other one.

But more than anything I loved your scale with Little Bear on the least annoying end. I LOVE Little Bear and all of the music that goes with it. Unfortunately we had to downsize our cable (i.e., save money) so we do not receive Noggin anymore. And that's where Little Bear is.

Kudos on the Doodlebops being on the most annoying end. Might I respectfully add an additional annoying show? Yes? Thanks. Calliou must go in that category. His whining gets on my last nerve. I want the mother and father to go ballistic on him ala Family Guy, but I know that won't ever happen.

Except inside my own head.

Great post!
