Stay at Home Dads: Do They Do Hair? Part II | Print |  E-mail
Written by Joeprah

**OMG, I have had so many issues with this post.  Adobe Premiere Elements fails me once again, and then, YouTube is horrid.  This post is amazingly resilient and will not be denied.**

So, after my first video which put the issue of Stay at Home Dads and little girls' hair under a microscope I have received a ton of feedback.  Comments ranged from folks thinking I was using a horse brush on my toddler, some think I basically abused her with my brushing technique, and others still asked questions and basically talked trash about the end result of my demo video.  Some moms even challenged me to a braiding contest.  First, my general response to all of these comments is--thanks for caring enough to comment.  Second, I would like to say that I am not a "hair hack" and I can do a much better job with my girls' hair than that video indicated.  Enter video #2.  This video looks at the "flat iron" and shows off some mad skillz I have when I am weilding that tool.  I don't expect you to trust my word on this, simply look at the video evidence.  Respect.

I'm with Momo here. That brush was bigger than her head. Hee hee. She is so good though. Miss M would not put up with that. She'd be away after the first moment with the straighteners.

Man there is a reason that I wear buzzcuts. I am in no uncertain terms allowed to comb my daughters hair. In fact, I think there may be restraining orders against it.

Pretty awesome Joeprah. My mom would just threaten us to stand still by saying "If you move I might burn you with this thing." Effective, but later deemed psychologically inhumane.
Also, maybe you could do a tutorial for dads (and some moms) on how to manipulate TINY kid items such as the buckles on dress shoes, snaps and buttons on clothing, car seat/stroller restraints, etc. The video could mostly focus on how to restrain the child AND not break the item. I am expecting a baby soon and I think my husband would benefit from another one of your learned video treatises. :grin

You rock! My daughter is lucky if she gets her hair brushed every day. Heck, I barely brush my own hair everyday! Wanna come over and do our hair?

Wow - that is one honking round brush. Seriously, I didn't even know they made brushes that vast in diameter. Beautiful job on her hair, though. Results speak for themselves!

i bow down in your general direction.

although i do have to ask--can i trade you kids? because (with all due respect to your mad skillz and whatnot) i suspect that 90% of your success is due to an abnormally cooperative kid. (whereas my kid likes to perfect the mambo while i do her hair. or maybe it's the pachanga. kinda hard to tell, but you see the difficulty in our divided interests.)

I just finished watching part 1 & 2 of Joeprah doing hair. You are pretty awesome at it.. I would like to hire your services because I suck at using the flat iron. Do you travel to Long Island? LOL

PS. Your comment on How Big is Aaron has had me giggling to myself all day.. You have offically claimed the title of comment of the week. Congrats.. smilies/smiley.gif

OMG, Awesome! That was so fun to watch!

I think you should open a beauty parlor in your house. The line will be out the door!

Mostly I think it's so great that, by doing all of these videos of "just normal life" with your kids, they will have such a keepsake of their childhood when they grow up. Just awesome.

chipmunks meet joeprah! love it. gotta say, this time - great job. but that brush is as big as your daughter's head! AND you poked her in the eye with it, too.

however, kudos on knowing how to use that flatiron. Just wait until they're old enough for prom. ALL the girls will be there waiting their turns.

Thanks alot. My daughter saw this, and now "Pony Hair" just won't cut it. It's cool, though, she says I still do pony hair better than Mommy. Hopefully I'll be able to master the flat iron well enough that pre-school doesn't send social services to the house wondering about the burns on her neck. Don't forget to put your drum sander back in your shop after you pull the handle out of it. I didn't know you could use them on hair also.

We've got one of those flat irons. I stay away from it. That sucker gets hot!

Seriously, though. Do you get your brushes from the bridle and tack shop. What was that round thing?

Your daughter could not be more adorable and a more willing and cooperative model. The majority of my hair time is spent repeating the mantra--princesses don't cry when they get their hair done.

Dude, you totally wielded that flat iron like a zen master. And that big round thing (hairbrush?) was spectacular. It deserves a video all its own. I still want to see if you can do braids. I can't. Not good, anyway.

I had no problem with the video.

Where the heck to you shop...the Big Brush Store? I have NEVER seen a round brush that big. Or, was it a spare tire on the end of a stick? I couldn't tell.

You are not off the hook. Braid-off. May 1st. Be there, or be square.

And either my computer is wacked, or your video is. I got the gist, though.
